Arma

About the title

You aren’t afraid to reboot twenty times per mission? You don’t swear dying from a machine gun burst-out that came in from nowhere? Do you know all the intricacies of managing armored personnel carriers, tanks, helicopters and subordinates? Then ArmA is just the right game for you! Offering a sufficient degree of challenge and hardcore realism, it makes the passing of missions actually complicated, unlike many other modern shooters.

It all starts when you’re ordered to follow the radio air. You are in a small resort town. It is surprisingly quiet in the high season – there are no laughing tourists or even locals on the streets. Only war. A patrol UAZ skips across a long bridge, and literally a minute later, with the roaring of its powerful engine, a formidable T-72 appears. Then another, then a nimble BMP, the second, the third… You are sitting around the corner of the building, holding your hand on the detonator and listening in surprise to the radio silence. Why is there no order to blast the bomb? What about the command? Are they dead?

“Calm down, soldier. That’s not all, wait… ” – an indifferent voice says. In the meantime, the advanced units of the enemy begin to disperse around the city, getting closer and closer to your shelter. “Flash! Flash! Flash!” – comes an order from the air. You press the button with relief – the bridge explodes, sending several tanks to the afterlife and trapping the rest. Now the most important thing is to get out of here, to break through to your camp.

Doing that will require a lot of caution, ingenuity and endurance. You’re looking at long minutes of crawling through the thicket, watching out for any enemies lurking out of sight, waiting for columns of hostile soldiers to pass and acting by stealth everywhere possible. Open attacks won’t do you any good, so patience here is really a virtue.

The action unfolds amidst sulky gray sceneries designed with a great level of detail. Your environment functions according to the laws of physics – almost everything you see around you is destructible. So it doesn’t always make sense to hide from tank fire behind a tree given that the shells can unroot it, set it on fire, and it will fall right on you. All these nuances make ArmA even more fascinating to play.
