War as it is
The game will strike you with the most realistic simulation of the military environment. The terrain you move through looks just like in real life and contains destructible elements. Every detail of the setting acts in sync with the rest of its fragments. Weapons have various characteristics like recoil, reloading and fire rate. To get the hang of the great number of rifles, pistols and guns offered to the player you need to learn all the tricks of the local ballistics. The transport is based on physics as well. In fact, every vehicle is distinguished by its own manner of movement, and you need to be aware of it to avoid problems. Armored transport can drive through forests, helicopters have realistic controls to master.
The campaign takes place in real time, but this doesn’t imply constant fighting. Military tactics also reflect the real world, where patience, flanking, and solid cover are essential. The game lacks explicit health points – any character can be killed with one or two shots. For some gameplay reasons, jumping is not available – you can climb high objects instead. Every soldier knows how to swim, but if you stay in the water for a long time, you can lose some equipment. The studio has added a new feature to the game that allows you to switch characters during combat.
The difficulty level affects the number of saves. After successfully completing the mission, the game is saved. Those playing on the Cadet level can do it infinitely, while the Veteran level will bring in some limitations making you think whether it’s the right time for a checkpoint or you can still wait for a more favorable opportunity. You can change in-game settings such as the HUD or weapon scope, as well as the AI skill of friendly and enemy troops.
From foot soldier to commander!
All chapters of ArmA follow a linear storyline.
